Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup warm water (110°F)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- ½ cup pizza sauce
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Your favorite toppings (pepperoni, vegetables, etc.)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (for the skillet)
- 1 tablespoon cornmeal (optional, for extra crispiness)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450–500°F (232–260°C).
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil, mixing until dough forms.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let rise in a greased bowl for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Place an empty cast iron skillet in the oven for 10–15 minutes to preheat.
- Carefully remove the skillet, brush it with olive oil, and dust with cornmeal.
- Stretch the dough to fit the skillet, pressing it to the edges.
- Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese and your favorite toppings.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 12–15 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Optional: Broil for 1–2 minutes for extra crispiness.
- Let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a crispier crust, substitute part of the flour with semolina flour. Avoid excess moisture from toppings to prevent soggy dough.
